Fabric Painted Chair

I got a couple of ugly chairs from my sister in law.  Lucky for me she had been hoarding them in her basement & need to clean it out because she was moving.  This one was in the best shape.

I knew this would be perfect for my very 1st CeCe Caldwell paint demo!  What better way to get people talking about the paint than to paint fabric?  I decided to paint it Young Kansas Wheat because it kinda reminds me of burlap, a great neutral color.  It was great at the demo, the color was gorgeous & everyone was really excited about painting fabric! I covered this dark navy blue with 2 coats of Young Kansas Wheat.  The arms & legs were also painted in Young Kansas wheat then Vintage White & rubbed back with a damp rag to reveal the Young Wheat in areas that would normally wear.  I waxed the arms  & legs with clear & tiny amount of light aging wax.  The fabric got 2 coats of Satin Finish mixed with water 50/50.

Thanks to KammyKim & Claire for the featuring my chair!

  1. This paint job features a beautiful color and your dog is just too cute! I haven't tried painting a chair yet... my husband thinks it's crazy so he always gives me a stink eye on that topic!

  5. Looks great. I do have a question, what does the fabric feel like after it's painted?

Thanks for sharing at the All Star Block Party.

  8. Wow - can you actually sit on it without cracking the finish? I was at an Annie Sloan workshop today and the whole painting fabric subject came up. Would love to know how durable it is.

Thanks for sharing at the All Star Block Party.

  17. That chair looks so much better and your dog is way too cute.

  18. That is an impressive way to make a chair look much better. It is easier to find good quality furniture than pretty and good quality furniture.

    The dog is cute too.
