Gray is the new beige!

I read an article the other day written by a local interior designer, she said gray is the new beige.  I totally agree!  I am loving gray right now!  Makes me want to redo my entire house in gray!  It is so elegant & classy!  So far I only have one gray piece in my house but I recently painted this gorgeous chest and chalkboard in my new love.  They are both for sale.

The chalkboard is huge!  Measures 26" X 30"

Chalkboard sold

Dining Room Table & Chairs

A few months ago I was scouring Craigs list looking for more dining room chairs.  We originally purchased 4 with our table & I always wanted a few more.  I happened to find the same chairs but they came with a table that the owner didn't want to separate.  Since I needed a table (and I couldn't find the 60" round wood table I was coveting) & the price was right, I went with it!
Before:

These chair covers are gross, right?  Mine weren't this terrible color but I wanted to make them all black anyway.  I was hoping we had some real wood on the table, my plan was to stain it with an ebony stain (my current fav) Anywho, after a little sanding I realized I was blessed to have a table top made from MDF.  Well, at least the finish would be smooth but no stain for me :(  So on to plan B.  I decided to paint the top black and the base white with an antique glaze.  After many hours of sanding my hubby decided it needed to go a little quicker and purchased a belt sander.  It works incredibly fast but leaves horrific marks in the top!  It has been such a dramatic difference I don't think anyone but me even notices those marks anymore.  The chair cushions were covered in a super smooth chenille that looks like velvet.  Totally gorg but attracts dust like you wouldn't  believe!

Thanks for stopping by, I will be posting furniture for sale soon!

Turquoise Secretary

This piece was my first Craig's list purchase.  I was so nervous going to get it.  I didn't know what to expect, will it be in worse condition than I'm expecting, am I meeting a serial killer?  Turns out everything was just fine.  There were no doors in the picture but she had them.  (she must not have been a serial killer since I'm still here)  Here is the before picture

Here is the after, another bright addition to my tween's room! She decided she doesn't like pink- Perfect! We are slowly adding some turquoise but don't think we will be painting anytime soon since it took us hours to get those stripes up!

The back was in terrible shape so I replaced it with beadboard.  LOVE!  Of course one of the doors had the trellis on it and the other didn't so while trying to cut it off- I broke the glass.  So one side has new glass that I beat up a little to make it look old.  Seems I always do something to make my projects take longer!  I stripped this piece right down the the beautiful mahogany wood.  Last time ever I will strip!  I'm talking about 3 layers of paint!!  Yep-3!  So glad that is over!
Here is what I found inside when I took the back off-kinda cool.

Why?

Why Peanut Butter Plaza do you ask? Seems like kind of a weird name for a furniture refinishing blog.  I happen to be a Mom to the sweetest 10 year old you will ever meet (she has her moments, trust me, but most people don't get to see that side of her.  She saves it all up for me & her dad!)  Well, a few weeks ago we were tossing around the idea of having a restaurant (for some reason this seems to be a dream of ours that we talk about every few weeks but never do anything about!).  We were having peanut butter at the time and my lil' sweetie came up with a bunch of peanut butter recipes- she said we could call the restaurant Peanut Butter Plaza.  My hubby nixed the idea right from the start but I thought it was brilliant.  Kinda catchy. (not that we would ever open a peanut butter restaurant, just sounds destined to fail!)  It has been stuck in my head ever since.  Besides you should have seen the smile on her face when I told her the name of my new blog-totally worth it! :)
